burning bright

I read some of Edna St Vincent Millay’s words, recently, that I haven’t read since college days. For some reason, they have always spoken to me. They say this:

“My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!”

This brings to mind a song by Switchfoot. It is titled, “Burn Out Bright.” The chorus goes like this:

“If we've only got one try
If we've only got one life
If time was never on our side
Then before I die
I want to burn out bright.”

Which brings me back to our Kathy…all these words reminds me of her. No, she was not by any means perfect…who is?...but her life burned like the hot embers of a beautiful fire…giving warmth to many…burning bright.

I miss her warmth,
g

Kathy left many gifts for everyone that she touched, it did not matter if it was a casual accquaintence or a longtime friend. Through her dying and ultimate death I learned of Caring Bridge and what a powerful tool that this can be. As one of Bretts' nurses I talk to people everyday and one of our patients Mom has been diagnosed w/ stage IV breast cancer. She the Mom of three little boys. I was able to share the power of Caring Bridge with her and this tool has made it easier to keep her family and friends updated. Even in death Kathy has made life easier for another human being. She is still remembered warmly and missed, Patti (Dr Silver and Mandujanos office)
